Joseph Lepore

Joseph Lepore is the Dive Safety Officer and Chief Submersible Pilot for the Waitt Institute, and his life as an underwater explorer is as diverse as it is remarkable. From Roman amphoras to pirate cannons to Civil War wine bottles, Joe has recorded and recovered some of the ocean’s most interesting artifacts. He has co-directed scientific diving operations with marine biologists and archaeologists from a number of institutions, and literally around the world – from Cuba to Indonesia. For 20 years, Joe served his country with distinction and honor, retiring as a highly decorated US Navy Master Chief Petty Officer and Master Diver in 2006. Joe’s most recent work has taken him on sub dives to the bottom of the Bering and Chukchi Seas, with his Bluetech Master in the cockpit and a Depthmaster 3000 riding outside!
